Location: San Jose, CA
Date Of Injury: March 2014
Hello, my name is Alejandra Andonaegui I am from San Jose, CA and I am a proud amputee/burn survivor & a true walking miracle.
My life change/life death experience happened on March 9, 2014. I got into major car accident where my ex fiancé passed away instantly (he was the driver) and I was the passenger. We crashed into a tree in downtown San Jose. Once we hit the motor of my car came in a smashed my entire left side from top to bottom.
The fire started right under my feet, my engine caught on fire. I was burning alive while I was trapped in my car, couldn’t move at all because my motor was completely smashing me. My body went into shock I was basically pronounced dead at the scene.
They rushed me to the hospital where I was brought to the burn unit at Valley Medical Center in SAN Jose CA. I was in a coma for a week then I woke up. Doctors told my family and friends I was not going to make it and then I woke up a week later. Due to the burns on my legs the doctors stated I was going to lose both legs & possibly never walk again because of my injuries and 5 months later I began to walk in my prosthetic leg (temp) leg and gratefully only lost one limb, my right leg below the knee.
2 years and 7 months later I am proud to say I am like brand new. I am giving back nor only by sharing my story but I got back into my field of work, medical assistant and landed a very proud position with Stanford UHA. I lost my big toe on my left leg and lost my right leg below the knee.
One thing is that I am grateful and everything happens for a reason. And my reason is here to help others and motivate them that anything is possible.
“I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.” 🙏
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and possibly share.
