The day our daughter fell accidentally into scalding hot water changed our lives forever. That 3 years ago. That fateful day was 21st August 2015.
She spent 10 grueling months in the hospital, precisely, Burns Unit at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
I am a teacher and the mom is an hair stylist. I teach in rural Ghana and that’s where we all live. We usually go to Accra for holidays when school is on vacation.
It was one of those vacations when the accident occurred. She sustained a 2nd and 3rd degree burns. The burns covered 21% of both legs. What worsened the case was we took her to a private clinic that didn’t have facilities to treat burns, when her condo was deteriorating before we rushed her to Burns and Plastic Unit at Korlebu Hospital.
Our lives have never been the same again. I am paying off a lot of loans I took to see her through. I sold my properties I don’t want to get into details how the family is struggling to be on its feet.
I will forever be grateful to Julie Spiegel of Spiegel’s Burns Foundation and Brecken Chinn of HandReach both played immense role in my daughter’s healing.
They raised funds to help pay off some of the medical bills and support the family financially. Julie personally helped pay off some debts I owe individually because of my daughter’s accident. She even paid her school fees.
Please we are still struggling financially to live one day at a time. We will appreciate any support you can offer us.
